Physical Therapy Programs

Cash-Based PT

At Pelvic Solutions, we are considered an out-of-network provider. We feel that insurance should not restrict the type of care patients receive and the number of visits allowed to achieve patient goals. We want our focus to be on our patients and their healthcare needs, not on the third party payer. Payment is due at the time of service via cash, check, debit/credit card, or HSA/FSA. A superbill will be provided at patients’ request to allow for reimbursement from insurance companies.

Initial Evaluation

During the initial evaluation patients can expect to spend one-on-one time with a Doctor of Physical Therapy to address all of your pelvic floor and musculoskeletal concerns. A comprehensive evaluation will be performed to determine a physical therapy diagnosis based on exam results. Patients can expect testing of select muscle groups including an internal/external examination given the patients permission in order to create a plan of care that meets the patients goals. Follow-Up Treatment Sessions

Treatment sessions will be a progression from the initial evaluation including individualized hands-on techniques based on patient needs. Additional assessments can be expected to ensure exercises/stretches are being performed appropriately and education will be provided on how to progress the patient’s individualized home exercise program to continue meeting goals. Sessions can be scheduled 1-2 weeks out at a time. Patients will have access to a DPT each visit and following, being provided with the therapist email and phone number.

Prenatal/Postpartum Sessions

Prenatal treatment sessions are focused around addressing any pain or limitations that may stall labor/delivery from a musculoskeletal standpoint. A DPT will go over perineal massage, how to relax your pelvic floor to make room for the baby, and how to utilize your breath during contractions and with pushing. Postpartum recovery is also reviewed for the first 0-6 weeks during Prenatal sessions.

Postpartum sessions focus on recovery and healing of the pelvic floor and core. Patients will be assessed for Diastasis Recti, formation of scar tissue, rib flare, etc., Sessions can take place in office or at the patients home. Newborns are welcome to be present during this session.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a technique involving the use of a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and release active myofascial trigger points that may be causing referred pain and reduction in range of motion. Research suggest that dry needling improves pain control and reduces muscle tension, speeding up a patient’s return to active rehab.

Dry needling in the state of VA does not require a physicians referral as of 7/1/23.

“I can’t say enough great things about Dr. Olivia! I had my first appointment today and left feeling truly connected to my body. She took the time to explain the “how and why” and what I need to focus on to help my current issues. I can’t wait for my next appointment!”

“I started having pelvic floor weakness after birthing my first child. Thankfully one of my friends let me know about Dr. Rutledge and her new practice. I was hesitant at first simply from nerves but I am so thankful I overcame those fears! Dr. Rutledge is professional, thorough, patient, and so knowledgeable. I have seen drastic improvement in my body even while being pregnant with my second child. Dr. Rutledge has given me the tools to prepare for labor, delivery, and postpartum. I am much more confident in myself and feel so much better too. I highly recommend her services to anyone!”
